Taiwan’s 2026 Travel Subsidy Could Launch in September: Up to NT$3,200 for Two Weekday Nights

In 2026, Taiwan’s Tourism Administration launched a domestic travel subsidy program, with the government covering part of travelers’ lodging costs. The Administration says that if the relevant budget passes in July, the birthday lodging-credit lottery can begin in August, with the subsidy officially launching in September. Travelers staying at licensed properties on weekdays (Sunday through Thursday) can receive discounts. This matters to accommodation owners: subsidies encourage domestic travel, concentrated on weekdays.

NT$3,200 discount

A birthday guest staying two consecutive weekday nights can save up to NT$3,200 by combining the weekday lodging subsidy and birthday lodging credit.

26 amusement parks

Free admission to 26 designated amusement parks across Taiwan with a lodging invoice: ‘Stay one night, play all day.’

NT$20,000 subsidy

Travel agencies organizing corporate trips for groups of 30 or more can receive up to NT$20,000 in subsidies per group

Option 1: Weekday accommodation subsidy

Stay at a licensed property Sunday through Thursday (excluding national holidays) and receive NT$800 off the first night, plus NT$1,200 for a second consecutive night at the same property—up to NT$2,000 off for two nights. The longer you stay, the more you save.

Option 2: Birthday accommodation credit

The Tourism Administration draws 1,000 birthday guests each month and gives each a NT$1,200 lodging credit, which can be combined with the weekday subsidy. A birthday guest staying two consecutive weekday nights can save up to NT$3,200—almost the equivalent of one night free for every night paid.

‘The subsidy targets weekdays, offering hope of easing the long-standing problem of vacant rooms for accommodation operators.’ — Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, 2026 Domestic Travel Subsidy Program

Option 3: Accommodation + free amusement park admission

For a weekday stay, show a lodging receipt and proof of stay from that day or the next to enter any of 26 designated amusement parks across Taiwan for free (including Leofoo Village, Formosan Aboriginal Culture Village, and Farglory Ocean Park). For families, ‘stay one night, enjoy a whole day out’ without extra admission costs is highly appealing.

Option 4: 60% Off Transport Passes

On weekdays, buy a Taiwan PASS (including high-speed rail, metro, Taiwan Tourist Shuttle, and more) at a limited-time 60% discount, or choose a NT$1,500 lodging credit per room to encourage independent travelers to explore farther.

Option 5: Corporate Group-Travel Subsidy

Travel agencies organizing employee trips for groups of 30 or more, with itineraries of at least two days and one night (no more than one weekend day), can apply for a subsidy of up to NT$20,000 per group. A tour group of 30 means enough bookings to fill an entire guesthouse.

Local bonus: Kaohsiung–Matsu group tours

Kaohsiung–Matsu direct-flight tour group (15 or more people): subsidy up to NT$10,000 per group, valid through the end of March 2027.

Key Takeaways

The subsidy could help fill weekday vacancies—but it won’t bring in guests automatically. Proactive promotion and stay-extension offers are key to capturing this wave of demand.

For accommodation operators, this domestic travel subsidy is a reminder that:

  1. 1

Target weekdays: Subsidies from Sunday through Thursday bring visitors directly to weekdays. Don’t miss this opportunity.

  2. 2

Promote your property proactively: The subsidy won’t bring guests automatically. Travelers still need to find and book a property themselves. Make sure your property is on the approved list and let travelers know they can use the subsidy.

  3. 3

Consecutive-night offer: Make the most of it with a two-night package, adding breakfast or an experience to increase length of stay and average spend.

How should room rates be adjusted after the subsidy launches? How can you design multi-night packages without losing money?
